April 29th: Drop in to this FREE Open-to-the-Public workshop from 1:30 to 3:30 at Best Western, Canton sponsored by the local chapter AARP 2831. Randy Hoak, Associate State Director AARP-NY, will share updates on advocacy at the State, Federal and Local levels. Come prepared to hear about the very important legislation under consideration in our nation’s capital that may impact health care. At the State level AARP is advocating for New Yorkers to have more opportunity to save for retirement, and locally AARP is leading the charge on issues of livability as many communities look to become more “age-friendly” in their approach to services and design of the built environment. If these topics are of interest to you, and you would like to add your talents to the team at AARP-NY, then please join us! Randy Hoak has worked in Aging for over 20 years. His work began as a volunteer at a social adult day program in Hamburg, NY. Randy went on to Canisius College in Buffalo, New York to study Psychology and Gerontology. After seven years with the Town of Hamburg Senior Services Department, Randy led the Recreation Department at Erie County Medical Center Corporation’s Erie County Home, a 586 bed skilled nursing facility in Alden, New York. In 2012, Randy was tapped by Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz’s to serve as Commissioner of the Department of Senior Services, the Area Agency on Aging in Erie County. One of Randy’s first orders of business at Erie County was to bring Erie County to AARP’s Network of Age Friendly Communities. As Associate State Director – Community Outreach at AARP New York, Randy, with the assistance and guidance of many dedicated volunteers, works in Western and Central Upstate New York on regional initiatives, advocacy, and community engagement. St. Lawrence County Chapter AARP invites the public to a COMPLIMENTARY workshop titled Financial Literacy: What You Need to Know.
