October Luncheon: Guest Speaker Deborah C.J. Chase-Lauther on What Not to do When Decluttering8/1/2017 October 17th Luncheon, 12 – 1:30 pm ($13) - Freight House, Ogdensburg, NY. Menu is Roast Beef, Garlic-Pepper Roasted Red Bliss Potatoes, Tossed Salad , Green Beans, Rolls and Butter, No dessert. Guests can request Gluten Free. RSVP to Vicki at 315-265-6964 or [email protected]. Deborah C. J. Chase-Lauther, Social Media and Community Relations Coordinator for CPH will present Organizer Wisdom: What Not to Do When Decluttering. The idea of living a simplified, uncluttered life with less stuff sounds attractive to many. The benefits of owning fewer possessions means there is less to clean, less debt, less to organize, less stress, more money, and more energy for other things. Here are some online tips: 1. Give away one item each day. 2. Fill one trash bag. 3. Try the Oprah Winfrey Closet Hanger Experiment. While this idea didn’t originate with Oprah, she was the one to help give it notoriety. To identify wardrobe pieces to clear out, hang all your clothes with the hangers in the reverse direction. After you wear an item, return it to the closet with the hanger facing the correct direction. After six months, you’ll have a clear picture of which clothes you can easily discard. 4. Take the 12-12-12 Challenge. A simple task of locating 12 items to throw away, 12 items to donate, and 12 items to be returned to their proper home can be a really fun and exciting way to quickly organize 36 things in your house. AARP Holiday Luncheon, December 12th from 11:30 - 2 pm at Lobster House, Norwood. You will be ordering from the Lobster House menu and paying your own bill. RSVP by Thursday, December 7th at [email protected] or 315-265-6964. The luncheon is being held early due to Christmas.
There will be a gift exchange as follows: Please bring a wrapped item that you’ve purchased (something between $5 and $10) OR a new, unused item that you are regifting. You will draw a number at the door. The “gifts” will go onto a table to be selected by drawing a number. When your number is called, you will select any gift from the table, open it and show it to the group. The next person will do the same, but can “steal” your gift if he/she likes it better than what they chose. You do not have to bring a gift nor do you have to play the game, but you will likely find it fun to see who gets what, who keeps what, who goes home with what! Potsdam, NY – Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Dr. Mariam Asar will speak on “Seniors and Suicide”, a special Ask the Physician event, on September 8, 2017, 5:30-7:00 pm, in Conference Rooms A&B, 50 Leroy Street. This event is held collaboratively with the local AARP chapter, and in recognition of September as National Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month.
Psychiatrist Dr. Asar will address why this population is often at risk and overlooked when discussing suicide. According to Dr. Asar, “Suicide in the senior population is of particular concern because of their susceptibility to possible feelings of isolation, health limitations, or financial concerns that can all contribute to a sense of hopelessness. Being aware of the signs of depression or possible suicidal indicators can help.” This event is free and open to all, including a light dinner. Those interested in attending should RSVP by September 6 to Deborah C. Lauther, 315.261.5413 or [email protected].
