Rebecca Allen, St. Lawrence County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, will present information on the current state of the Zika virus, and also offer advice on measures to take when traveling and at home, where environmental hazards such as standing water pools can breed mosquitoes and create potentially unsafe conditions for the transmission of disease. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that between 2015 and May 3, 2017, over 5,200 presumptive cases of Zika virus have been reported in the United States (cdc.gov/zika/geo/united-states.html). Please contact Deborah Lauther 315.261.5413 or [email protected] by June 5 to reserve your seat. A light dinner will be provided, and the event is free and open to all. AARP 2831 will offer a two part event from 12 to 1:30 pm on June 20th at the West Potsdam Fire Hall. There will be an "auction" of gently used or new items you wish to bring for exchange.
